Helpful Internet Resources

The Folger Shakespeare Library (located in Washington, DC) houses the largest single collection of First Folios (1623) in the world, and is generally acknowledged to be one of the premier libraries for Shakespeare research. Their website contains many helpful resources, including numerous primary documents available for you to look at online. Check it out at www.folger.edu.

Week One

You're to read Hamlet from the Norton Complete Works; reading the introduction to the play is optional but helpful. Also, please read pages 1-40 of the general introduction by Stephen Greenblatt, and write a one page, single spaced response paper in which you:

  1. summarize the play
  2. give your thoughtful reactions
  3. tell what section (of at least ten pages) you re-read and why
  4. list several original, thoughtful questions

This will be due on the first night of class.

Looking forward to it!
